Quran burnings point to broader anti-immigrant bias: former UN Rapporteur

A surge in Quran burnings by far-right extremists triggers concern over anti-immigrant sentiment and freedom of expression, with a former UN special rapporteur calling it ‘an assertion of a broader anti-immigrant, anti-non-European right-wing bias’.

There is a ‘strong case’ for prohibition of such acts that ‘serve no possible constructive purpose,’ says Richard Falk / Photo: Reuters Archive.

A recent wave of the desecrating of the Quran, Islam’s holiest book in Sweden and Denmark is “an assertion of a broader anti-immigrant, anti-non-European right-wing bias that has grown to be quite politically strong,” according to a former UN special rapporteur.

“There’s no legitimate purpose by allowing groups to burn the holy scriptures of another religious faith,” Richard Falk, a professor emeritus of international law at Princeton University, said in a video interview.

“It seems to me to serve…no possible constructive purpose. And I think there is a strong case for (such acts to be) prohibited.”

In recent months, far-right extremist groups have desecrated and burnt several copies of the Quran in Denmark and neighboring Sweden, drawing fierce condemnation from Muslims around the world and calls for measures to stop such acts.

The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on July 25 that terms all acts of violence against holy books a violation of international law.

‘Is it hate speech?’

About the line between freedom of expression and actions that may be considered offensive to religious beliefs, Falk said they could fall under the umbrella of “free speech” but could be linked to a “formation of violent behaviour” in some cases.

On the question of limits to freedom of speech in cases where, for instance, it threatens security, he said: “Yes, it could be (limited) in certain contexts if it could be argued to be a threat to security”.

He said various European countries “have a less permissive view (than the US) of freedom of speech and are more concerned with prohibition of hate crime”.

“Therefore, this kind of act could be prohibited under the broad prohibition against hate speech, which exists, I know, in the UK and Germany, for instance,” he said, adding that the same may not be the case under Scandinavian laws.

Quran burnings could be “alleged to be hate speech,” said Falk, but it also depends on the precedent within a particular country or region.

Falk said that countries could pass laws to prevent attacks on holy books, emphasising that they “would have considerable international support at this point.”

“Because there is a recent UN resolution … that does say it’s contrary to international law, to burn or otherwise destroy,” he said.

Threat of violence

Muslims around the world are concerned that these increasing attacks on the Quran could lead to more violence against the community itself.

With book burnings having been one of the main Nazi campaigns in the lead-up to the Holocaust, Falk warned that “democratic societies have to be vigilant against the repetition of this kind of genocidal behaviour because it obviously can be repeated.”

“It has, to a certain extent, been repeated recently in Myanmar, where the Muslim minority … was subjected to what many observers have defined as genocidal,” he said, referring to the plight of the Rohingya community.

    {A recent wave of the desecrating of the Quran, Islam’s holiest book in Sweden and Denmark is “an assertion of a broader anti-immigrant, anti-non-European right-wing bias…}

This is NOT limited only to ‘anti-immigrant, anti-non-European right-wing bias’, but is strongly related to Islamophobia, as a tool, to be used by the zionists/imperialists to reach their desired geopolitical map in the middle east where has been stopped by Iran and the sacrifices that General Soleimani and his close associates made.
The US/Israel designed and implemented 9/11 to promote Islamophobia in order to attack seven countries in five years. We have seen they have used
‘the war on terror’ to invade and kill millions of Muslims through chaos, bombing, assassination, terrorism and destruction of Muslim’s crops to capitulate this community to obey their New world order, which is nothing but full slavery. They framed Afghanistan for 9/11 terror without any shame.
Those individuals who conduct burning or desecration of Quran under direction of the western intelligence agencies including Mossad, benefit financially or politically.
To show the action of these criminals, I bring the famous words of the German poet, 1821 Heine’s play ‘Almansor’ saying:

(“Where they burn books, they will, in the end, burn human beings too.”).

In the play, this is a reference to the burning of the Quran during the Spanish Inquisition in an effort to eradicate the Moors from the Iberian Peninsula, which had been a major center of medieval Islamic culture.
So, we learn that burning Quran is not limited to ‘immigration’, but to Islamophobia as a TOOL to be used in their geopolitical arrangement for political gain. They have used it in the past and has continued to the present until they achieve their desired outcome.
Those who burn Quran for political gains have already burn their own citizens in September 2001, designed and carried out by their own states, US/Israel, where burned 3000 Americans, but these gullible people did nothing to protest against the burning of their own souls, because they are IMPOTENT. They have been fed with lies against Muslims to be manipulated and controlled for political gains.

Attacks on Muslim holy book continued in Denmark, as an Iranian-born Danish woman desecrated a copy of the Quran in the capital Copenhagen.
Firoozeh Bazrafkan shredded a copy of the Quran in front of the Iranian Embassy on Saturday August 5, 2023.

She is a member of Baha’i sect. The majority of Iranian Baha’i are coming from Jewish background. The Baha’i sect supports the apartheid entity and have CLOSE relations with US/Israel.
The Baha’i community have gained power in the West by posing as ‘victims’.
According to reports, the elements of this sect played an important role in organizing new movements against the Quran in Europe.
Among the member of this sect, is a person by the name of Firoozeh Bazrafkan, who has been presented as an ‘artist’ by the media, but behind this facade there is an extravagant person who has a history of insulting sacred things many times in her career to obtain FAME to promote her political line against Islam and Iran.
She has been already convicted as a RACIST by the Danish court in 2013

Her supporter, Nick Cohen, whose writings are to provoke people in Europe against Islam, thinks that people in the West are NOT doing enough to illegitimate Islam. Cohen in a piece at ‘the Spectator’ writes:
    {Why can’t we admit we’re scared of Islamism? Let’s face it — we only challenge religions that won’t hurt us, and governments that won’t arrest us}

Neither Cohen nor Bazrafkan, has anything to say against either US invasions, terrorism or the apartheid Israel who bombs and kills on a daily bases. Bazrafkan goes only against Islam and those countries that are viewed as an obstacle against the New world order in the region, including Iran.
Bazrafkan wrote, in a blog entry for the Jyllands-Posten newspaper, that she was “very convinced that Muslim men around the world rape, abuse and kill their daughters”.
Bazrafkan, a convicted racist, said: she did this as an act of solidarity with Lars Kragh Andersen, who had been convicted of racism for writing that Muslim men raped and killed their daughters, and this was the product of their defective culture and inhumane religion. Bazrafkan repeated his words.
If these lies are not a threat against the Muslim community in Europe, then what is it?

Why are you so coward and protective of the zionist/imperialists’ interest that you CENSOR the comments. But you with no EVIDENCE, like Israel and US, hold Assad government, an elected president, FALSELY the one behind Houla Massacre, at your blog. Be brave and tell the truth.

[The Houla Massacre of a week ago in several small Muslim villages near the Syrian city of Homs underscores the tragic circumstances of civilian vulnerability to the brutal violence of a criminal government.]
